Newsflash...we have been awarded 3 hats in the Gault & Millau Restaurant Guide! A fantastic surprise. It rivals the Michelin Guide in Europe and this is the new Australian edition. Qualified judges came in anonymously on several occasions and liked the food and experience. Only 5 big name Melbourne restaurants got a higher score.
"We left the menu of 6 degustation type courses to Jon and Ulla with three requests - duck, seasonal (autumn) and French. To provide for a range of tastes for ages 2 to 93 was perhaps a tall order but on arrival a French champagne (or cranberry juice) greeted us. On seating a pear shooter (schnapps or pear juice) then the "real food" as my granddaughter called it, followed – the style could be classic French with a twist but whatever it is termed it was perfect – raw fish curls [ceviche], cheese soufflé and duck boudin (sliced sausage) with calamari risotto between the soufflé and duck. All courses included a local seasonal vegetable. Given it was a significant birthday celebration; a profiterole cake arrived complete with sparklers and doubled as dessert. Now Ulla knows I have a weak spot for her affogato dessert and just when I thought I was complete, it arrived. O and did I mention the pinot? Perfect for lunch and perfect for this menu although I think we managed a bottle of white selected from the wine rack that tempts us every time. Thank you Jon and Ulla for treating our family to a beautifully crafted Sunday lunch for 12 and I do hope this has inspired you to leap into degustation – you will succeed."
